DICKINSON COUNTY BANK

OUR MISSION: Our goal is to be the Bank for people and local businesses in Dickinson County, Kansas.  We are for enterprise: both the concept of initiative and the place.
THE BANK: The Dickinson County Bank is the oldest bank in Dickinson County, Kansas.  The Bank was established during a depression in 1894 to meet the needs of local people and businesses.  We are not anyone’s branch.

CUSTOMER RELATIONS:

We are for individual success and initiative.  We want to have a personal relationship with our customers.  Our business decisions are made in this Bank on Factory Street in Enterprise, Kansas.  We are not taking directions from someone up the chain of command in Kansas City, Omaha or some other distant headquarters.  “We are going to look each other in the eye” and do business.
SUCCESS: We cannot succeed unless our customers succeed.  Our deposits become loans in the area.  Our loans are community investments.  Regulators don’t need to make us invest here.  We do so because we want to.
UNENCUMBERED: The Dickinson County Bank is unencumbered.  By this we mean that its shares are owned by individuals and not mortgaged to buy the Bank.  In a complex banking world we are very simple.

ESSENCE OF OUR BUSINESS:

Ten Percent of all of the money in a sound, safe, bank is the money of the Bank.  The other ninety percent is money that is held on deposit for the owners.  When we make a loan it must be sound because we must be able to pay all of our depositors whenever they need their money.  We want our borrowers to be successful because only in that event can we succeed.
OUR ATTITUDE: We are a small, independent, community Bank.  No person or business is insignificant to us.  We are proud of that.  It’s a big government, big corporate, big Wall Street world.  We aim to compete and survive by banking individuals and small businesses in and around Dickinson County, Kansas.
REGULATIONS: Banking is one of the most regulated businesses in this country.  In order to carry out the business philosophy that is written here, we must accept those regulations and comply with all of them in the manner and spirit intended.  That compliance often requires time and paperwork.

Times were troubled and frightening when this Bank was formed in 1894 after the one before had failed. The Dickinson County Bank has survived several economic troubled times when other banks in the area have not. Those fellows that started this Bank were local farmers and business people who knew they needed to handle their money and finances locally and themselves. They knew that wasn’t coming from institutions without a direct stake in the community and the success of its people. Time passes but a lot of things remain the same.
